Accommodation - styles and location
We are currently offering 3 styles of accommodation all of which are open year round; Edelweiss hotel with studios and apartments, Villa Georgia with studios and apartments and Explorers Rest studios. They are based in Argassi on the verdant plain at the foot of Mount Skopos. Our accommodation has been deliberately chosen to be easily accessible without being overly commercialised. All of our accommodation is family run and bears the unmistakable genuine ‘filoxenia’ that sets them apart from mainstream tourist accommodation. The true meaning of ‘filoxenia’ is more than just ‘hospitality’, it is a generosity of spirit towards the foreigner.
Argassi village is situated in the Southern part of the island, on the east coast, 3 km southeast of Zakynthos town and 5.8 km from the airport, so about 10 minutes by car. On the coastal road between Zakynthos Town and the Vasilikos peninsular Argassi is an ideal base for exploring further afield.
During the summer season (May to October) Argassi resort, based along the sea front, enjoys the benefits of a tourist resort; a small but good selection of excellent and varied tavernas, restaurants, beach bars and shops. The narrow sandy/shingle beach has a lively water sports centre and also harbours the remains of a Venetian bridge built in 1805.
During the winter the pace of life slows down in Argassi and the village returns to its roots; Olive picking, farming and fishing are the main pastimes. Village life revolves around the Olive factory and the village store which doubles as a meeting place/coffee bar. There’s no shortage of fresh local produce but there’s always at least one taverna/restaurant open throughout the winter. With the milder temperatures it’s the ideal time for walking, trekking and outdoor adventures. There are some off the beaten track walks that start at the foothills of Mount Skopos and many other walks all over the island.
